  Collector's Notes

The 8283 Short-Fuze v1 figure, mortar soldier, is not particularly hard to find in near mint condition. The silver pouches on his upper arms and brown pouches on his thighs are places to look out for paintwear.

As with all straight-arm G.I.Joe figures, the elbows are a concern. They may be cracked, chipped, or even discolored from stress. And as with all early Joe figures with removable helmets, paint ware may be an issue to the hair and eyebrows from snapping them on and off.

What is particularly interesting about Short-Fuze v1 are the number of variations. There are 3 key variations to both his real name and his mortar.

File (Real) Name:
1. Eric W. Freistadt
2. Mark W. Brenstan
3. Mark W. Freistadt
NOTES on File Name Variations: It's hard to say which variation is the most rare as production numbers have not been released. But "Eric W. Freistadt" appears to be easiest to find. Both Mark W. versions seem to be less common. The "Mark W. Freistadt" most commonly appears on red back, mail-in filecards, but it is unknown if that is the only variation in which it appears.

Mortar Variations:
1. Open THIN Handle
2. Open THICK Handle
3. Closed THIN Handle

Short-Fuze with a hyphen is the correct spelling of this figure's code name. However, it is often mispelled as any of these variations:
Shortfuze, Short Fuze
Shortfuse, Short Fuse, Short-Fuse
